Planet Rescue is now on YouTube Playables
Planet Rescue, one of the five games in Solar Puzzles, is now a YouTube Playable. YouTube reviewed it and accepted it. Open it right inside YouTube, on your phone or on a computer, and the first mission starts in a few seconds. It is free, and there is nothing to install.
The whole game, one tap from a video
Playables are games that run inside YouTube. You find them in the Playables section of the YouTube app and on youtube.com, next to the videos you already watch. Planet Rescue there is the game you know from the apps. Planets are trapped in a field of rock and ice. Drop pieces to fill whole lines, the lines burn away, and the planets fly free.
- All forty missions, from easy starts to real puzzles. The first one shows you the move it was built around and then hands it back.
- Mystery Flights, new missions made up on the spot once every mission is cleared.
- The Space Museum. Every mission adds star points, and the points open the planets, with real photographs and true facts.
What is different on YouTube
- Your progress stays with YouTube. Missions, star points and museum finds save to your YouTube account, so you can come back to the same place later.
- YouTube controls the sound and the pause. Mute and pause belong to YouTube, so the game has no sound switches of its own there.
- Now and then, a short ad. YouTube may show an ad between missions, never in the middle of one. When your hearts run out, you can also choose to watch a video for one more heart, or simply wait for it as usual. The Solar Puzzles apps and the browser demo have no ads.
One codebase, more places
The game code behind Planet Rescue is Kotlin Multiplatform. The same code runs the Android app, compiles to WebAssembly for the browser demo on upflygames.com, and now runs the YouTube build. For YouTube we wrap that build in a small shell that talks to the Playables SDK: it says when the first frame is ready, saves progress to the cloud, and pauses the mission whenever YouTube pauses the game. If you are thinking about a game for Playables, this is the kind of work we do.
Set the first planet free. Play on YouTube, try the demo in your browser, or get all five games in the apps.
